Sample Work

Sample Lesson Sequence
Below is a sample of a 3 day lesson sequence that I have taught for my Algebra 2 class and the lesson plans I wrote that explained my steps for instruction. These lessons include the supports that I intend to provide for varied learners as well as a basic structural outline of the lesson.

Lesson Day 1 - Volume of an Iphone Box
Lesson Day 2 - Growing Functions
Lesson Day 3 - Sorting Polynomials

Sample Worksheets
These worksheets are based on discovery based learning where students are collaborating together in order to develop a better conceptual understanding of the topic.

Graphing Radical Functions - Extraneous Solutions
Rational Functions - Finding the Vertical Asymptote and Holes
Solving Quadratics - Completing the Square
Inverse Functions

Cultural Relevancy Integration

Here is a lesson I did with my students that outlined the importance of trig in the real world. Instead of having them solve boring triangle problems, I decided to do something a little more interesting! Why not create these problems and have students find the height of objects they normally see around campus? So, I started off the lesson by showing my students this image of a mast in front of the school office.

Then, I introduced the lesson, "Do you guys know what this object is?" And the students responded, "It's the pole in front of the office." And soon after, they naturally propose the driving question of the lesson, "How tall is the mast?"

Then, I show them this image:

I remark, "Do you guys remember that lesson we did on trigonometry yesterday? Well here's how we can use it in the real world!" Suddenly, their engagement is hooked while they are essentially practicing the skill of solving a right triangle.

Here's some other images I showed to the class!

I could not believe how engaged the students were, and all it took was a few pictures of me standing next to a couple of buildings!
